The truth is something a lot of people aren’t interested in hearing these days. Increasingly, we’ve let how we feel about current events become the primary factor for our responses to them. But there are a handful of vocal individuals fighting back and sharing the truth in spite of how it may hurt some people’s feelings and threaten their dangerous ideologies.

My guest is one of those individuals. His name is Adam Carolla and I know a lot of you are already familiar with the great work he’s doing in comedy and podcasting. Today, Adam and I talk about the attack on comedy, what he refers to as “chick think,” why not all opinions carry the same weight, and how to get over what other people think of us.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Consequences of reckless forward “progress”
  • “Chick think” vs. “dude think”
  • Not all opinions are created equal
  • Responding to people’s reactions by adjusting the pitch, not the design
  • We are wired for narcissism
  • Creating a bigger chasm in society
  • There’s been a general attack on “work”
  • Kids cannot defend their minds against propaganda presented in the schools
  • Developing the entrepreneurial spirit

Life is tough for everyone, some more than others. It’s not a question of whether or not we have or will face adversity but a matter of how we bear it that counts. Whether you grew up in an abusive home, without a father or mother in your life, overcome depression, addiction, and/or suicidal thoughts, every single one of us struggles.

And, my guest today, world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt, Tom DeBlass, is no exception to that. Today, Tom and I talk about his new book, How You Bear It. We also talk about the importance of doing things the right way versus chasing wins, how to keep yourself centered in the midst of chaos, why and how purpose can be found in service to others, how to keep ourselves from self-sabotaging, and so much more.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Allow yourself to be a student
  • Trying to stay positive in the face of adversity

  • Having the “capability” to administer violence allows you the freedom to be compassionate
