As young boys, the world is quite literally our playground. It seems so full of questions waiting to be answered and mysterious places to discover and explore. It’s in our nature to run, jump, play and unlock the secrets that call to us. Then, as we become men, we lose a lot of the natural curiosity and desire to traverse the world around us. The world around us often become more like a jail cell than the playground we remember of our youth.

My guest today is a man who has not lost a bit of the curiosity and excitement of his youth. If anything, he has cultivated it. His name is Danny Bolton. Today, you’re going to hear how to recapture that magic. We talk about how hesitation hurts us, a man’s need to play, creating an enemy to fight against, the analogy of the wolf, sheep, and sheep herder, the power of being ready for anything, and how to tap back into our primal nature.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Taking the life of an animal in the most humane and efficient way possible
  • Letting out your “animal” side
  • How to get started expressing your wild side
  • Some stress is great, but we stress about too much
  • Do we need to have some type of “enemy” to confront
  • We tend to choose the path of least resistance
  • Considering risk in the decision making process
  • Underestimating risk in the moment
  • Pressure of performing/shooting around other people

In this week’s ASK ME ANYTHING, Kipp Sorensen and Shawn Villalovos take on the hottest questions of the week. Hit Ryan up on Instagram at @ryanmichler and share what’s working in your life.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

(5:40) Do you have a faith based goal for 2023? If so how are you choosing to measure this in order to manage it and show progress in an area that sometimes is based more off of feeling or, when tangibly measured, can seem like action without faith?

(19:05) What are your thoughts on compassion fatigue, and what to do to revitalize my passion for mentoring others?

(32:38) I have been seeing someone for 3 months now and we've said we want to be official but she has some bad bf history that is keeping her from doing so (her words). We've had a conversation about it and she has communicated that she's still concerned that i may have some red flags she hasn't seen yet and wont take the next step. It seems the longer she doesn't find something the more certain she is they exist. Most of what she has said she wants seem like what you develop over a year or more relationship.  I have been patient as I have dealt with similar stuff myself but I am struggling to not feel the consistent "no not yet" as a form of rejection. its getting to the point that Im losing interest despite her being a wonderful woman with great communication. What can I/we do to work through this before I completely walk away?

(41:10) How do y’all balance the mindsets of competing with yesterday’s version of yourself and competing with others? Do y’all think that these mindsets are at odds with one another or complimentary?

(50:00) How do you disengage from all social media, when most of your friends and family live out of state, and you buy and sell things on FB marketplace all the time?

(55:15) I’m dating a girl, she told me there is another guy she has been dating longer she is might be getting serious with. I told her I didn't really care about her and what other guys are doing - that I am going to keep asking her out as long as I'm single, interested, and she is available. What's your suggestion for keeping my mind off the competition and focused on us?

(1:03:05) I would like to hear more on raising daughters. My oldest is a girl, nearly 11, and my wife and I struggle with how to handle her exposure to things that she isn’t ready for yet. We homeschool her and she is very bright but we’ve caught her on websites that she shouldn’t be on and she has been calling things sexist etc. she doesn’t fully grasp what some of these things mean but I am starting to have deeper conversations with her and my wife on a regular basis. Any other tips would be great!

Every single day, we’re faced with choices that will either help or hinder us and move us closer to our goals and desires or further away. What we decide in those moments will determine our ultimate results. And, if we’re not satisfied with our current reality, it’s safe to assume that we made choices that did not serve us well.

Today I’m joined by former NFL Super Bowl Champion and Results Coach, Setema Gali to talk about these choices. We also cover the power of decisiveness, making certain that our priorities don’t merely get the leftovers, the level of commitment required to thrive and win, the positive benefits of guilt and shame, the dangers of false humility, and the trap of self-martyrdom and victimization.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Setting the standard for your kids
  • Need to balance discipline with letting your kids be kids
  • The importance of establishing clear agreements with your family
  • Family values
  • Building champs instead of chumps
  • We can experience emotion without it becoming our identity
  • What we focus on most is who we become
  • Conflicting thoughts about money and morals
  • Our commitment alters everything
  • We’re not victims, we get to choose
  • Empower yourself by taking responsibility

It’s easy to get caught up in complaining without moving into the next logical step – solutions. Let’s be honest, there is a lot to complain about in today’s cultural and political climate. But unless we’re willing to do something about the injustices we see in society, complaining is nothing more than empty gestures and platitudes. It was Plato who said, “The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.”

Today, I’m joined by former Navy SEAL and cultural podcast host, Shawn Ryan. We talk about why politics and entertainment seem to be more about creating controversy than anything else, the hypocrisy in elected officials on both sides of the aisle, the impending danger of an open US border and Chinese globalization, raising kids in positivity, and why instead of simply complaining, we must be willing and able to do something about it.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Outrage culture
  • Hypocrisy coming out of the conservative side
  • Switching party as a publicity stunt
  • The race to win artificial intelligence
  • Contributing to the solution
  • The biggest problem our country is facing
  • The country needs someone to bring it together
  • The possibility of getting involved in politics
  • People need to take responsibility for raising their own kids
  • Don’t just complain, do something

I think it’s safe to assume that if you’re listening to this podcast, you’re a man who is interested in becoming a more capable man. Unfortunately, the men who have come before us have, in a lot of ways, made it possible for us not to have to step up the way we as men ought to – as “savage servants.”

Today, I am joined by Nick Koumalatsos – a former member of Marine Reconnaissance – to talk about what it means to be a “Savage Servant.” We also discuss physical fitness as the foundation of what it means to be a man, why we must fabricate struggle, positive programming, and personal growth through humility.

Finding our sense of worth as men can be an extremely daunting task. We’re often led to believe that if we say just the right things, do all the things we should be doing, and achieve the success society has deemed appropriate, we’ll find what we’re looking for.

Unfortunately, many of us are left with a sense of emptiness in spite of our worldly success. My guest today is my good friend Granger Smith. Today, we tackle a conversation we really haven’t had on the podcast as we talk about self-worth, the danger in the “love yourself” message, why cultural Christianity doesn’t cut it, feeling like a fraud, and ultimately finding faith and hope in God.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Do things that are intrinsically meaningful
  • Determining when enough is enough
  • How to take the power away from critics
  • The problem with superficial, cultural Christianity
  • We are only worthy through God
  • Why does suffering exist?
  • We need challenges and hardship to refine us
  • Sometimes “self-help” isn’t enough
  • Always moving forward
  • We need to stop thinking about ourselves first

Marriage is one of the most challenging yet rewarding pursuits for a man. Unfortunately, very few of us have ever been taught how to successfully navigate the dynamics between men and women. And, all too often, it leads to headache, heartbreak, and divorce.

Today, I’m joined by marriage expert Keith Yackey to talk about these dynamics and how to successfully build a long and thriving marriage. We talk about the ROI (return of intimacy) in marriage, how a man gains his power back after giving it away, the “mommy matrix,” why seeking her validation will backfire, and the 5 dials of a powerhouse marriage.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Thriving in business vs thriving in marriage
  • Five dials that help men measure effectiveness
  • Women want you to be a good parent
  • Women want you to be her partner
  • Women want you to be a producer
  • Women want you to have fun
  • Women want you to do what you say you’re going to do, when you say you’re going to do it
  • Become the guy that any woman would be thrilled to be with
