We’re all tempted, at times, to cut corners, to take the path of least resistance, and to do work less than we’re capable of doing. It’s easy to do in this easily distracted, overly-stimulated environment we all operate in. My guest today, former Navy SEAL, Remi Adeleke is a prime example of doing work right despite our desire to take the easy route.

Author of his latest book, Chameleon, Hollywood director and consultant, and TV reality show star, Remi knows what he wants, what he doesn’t, and how to pursue everything with an eye towards exceptionalism and mastery. Today, we talk about not becoming a “one-note guy,” getting over Fear of Missing Out when declining opportunities, why writing is one of the best ways to articulate your thoughts, why it’s a mistake to write off the success of others, and timeless advice he learned from his mom like the mantra, “Whatever you do, do it right.”

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Doing it all
  • Make yourself indispensable
  • Creating a fantasy world from your own real world experience
  • Coming to America from Nigeria
  • Don’t live in the past and play the victim
  • Lessons learned from the Bronx
  • Do things right the first time
  • Chat GPT and AI making people stupid
  • Bringing your work to life on the screen

Every one of us has experienced trauma of some sort in our lives. Some more challenging scenarios than others. But it does no good to compare our own circumstances with others, only what those who seem to be able to manage and work past the difficulties of life can teach us.

Combat Rescue Helicopter Pilot, Lt. Colonel Brian Slade joins me on today to talk about strategies he’s learned and developed for overcoming some of the worst scenarios he and others have overcome in their lives. We discuss the concept of “chair flying” as a method for anticipating and preparing for traumatic events, the difference between those who adapt to challenge and those who don’t, why we as men need to wrap our heads around “operating in the ugly,” overcoming festering emotional wounds, and how to triumph over trauma.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • “Just get over it” its not great advice
  • Stress inoculation and “chair flying”
  • Gratitude and perspective
  • Don’t mistake the gunfight (finite) for the mountains (infinite)

Child sex trafficking literally permeates every corner of the globe. It’s despicable, it’s nasty, and it’s a growing trend, even in 2023. Where most men recognize problems in this world, few are willing to put their own careers and lives on the line to create solutions.

My guest today is built different. His name is Tim Ballard and he is the founder of Operation Underground Railroad which exists to rescue children from dangerous and despicable sex rings. Today, we talk about what a truly compassionate border policy would look like, the hyper-sexualization of the world and the degeneracy it leads to, how unintended policy incentives often make problems worse, why evil lurks behind the concept of tolerance, and his latest film uncovering the underground child sex trade, Sound of Freedom.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The U.S. is one of the top consumers of child sexual material
  • Open borders are contributing to the problem
  • Its not easy to profile child sexual predators
  • Pornography is a gateway
  • Sex work is the antithesis of feminism
  • When is government intervention appropriate

Trust is something all of us know we need to build in order to have influence with those we love and whom we’re called to lead. But it’s also incredibly difficult to build and even harder to repair once you’ve undermined it. And, unfortunately, as challenging as it is to build, it’s incredibly easy to tear apart never to be seen again.

My guest today is Dr. Henry Cloud, author of his latest book, Trust: Knowing When to Give It, When to Withhold It, How to Earn It, and How to Fix It When It Gets Broken. We talk about trust being a learned skill, the process for repairing trust, 5 factors that drive the trust system, trust as a long game vs. a short game, and how trust fuels every single aspect of life.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The importance of having in-person conversations
  • Creating a safe environment for those around us
  • Five steps to building trust
  • We need to know that people have our back
  • The way we say things matters
  • We need to become good at something
  • Behave your way back into trust
  • Breaking down trust barriers
  • Building trust can take longer than we want it to
  • Life is giving us a 360 review all the time…if we’re listening
  • Be intentional with the patterns we develop

Many of us have been in some horrible circumstances. Between war, rioting, home invasion, active-shooter situations, natural disasters, civil unrest, and more, it’s becoming increasingly common to find ourselves in life and death struggles. We must not be unprepared for when that day arrives.

We discuss his latest book, Prepared, increasing risk tolerance, fortifying your home and equipping your vehicle, the importance of self-discipline, paranoia and the Law of Diminishing Returns, peacocking for safety, policing each other, and surviving worst case scenarios.

“I’m babysitting my kids,” is likely something a lot of you fathers have used as an excuse or reason not to do something else. I know I certainly have. But we don’t really babysit, do we. Babysitting our children implies they aren’t our inherent responsibility and that, obviously, is not the case.

My guest today, Nate Feathers, makes the case against “babysitting our children,” and, instead, shows fathers a better way to approach the relationship between father and son or daughter. Today, we talk about kids mimicking our behavior, the changes in culture with regards to fatherhood, how to bond effectively with newborns, toddlers, and teens, learning to let go of your children, how to keep the relationship (and sex life) with your wife thriving, and why it’s not accurate to assume that you’re ever “babysitting” your children.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Fathers can be disciplined AND kind
  • The biological connection between mothers and children
  • How fathers can bond with newborn babies
  • Skin to skin contact with your kids
  • Women take what we give them and make it better
  • Enjoying your kids through the years
  • Most guys should provide less structure, not more
  • Focus on the moment, with your kids and with your wife
  • Advice for single fathers

The mid-life crisis. It’s something we’ve all heard about. Many men have likely experienced it. Typically, the midlife crisis is associated with driving around a sports car from your childhood and trying to land women 10-15 years your younger. But the midlife crisis is a bit more nuanced than that and doesn’t require looking or acting like a d-bag to navigate it. In fact, if handled correctly, men’s middle years can be some of the most powerful and transformative years of his life.

Today, I’m joined by Greg Scheinman to talk about how to make that happen. We talk about overcoming trauma and victimization, what he calls “over-indexing” in certain aspects of your life, six “f’s” of life to focus on, the power of purpose, process, and payoff, and how to successfully navigate the midlife crisis.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Is the word “trauma” overused?
  • Determine what you need to be doing
  • The 6 F’s: Family, fitness, finance, food, fashion, fun
  • Causes of the midlife crisis
  • What can you do to turn things around?
  • You have to have an action plan
  • We need to schedule our fun
  • Lead your family by example
  • Defining the line of what is acceptable in society
  • “Authenticity” is not an excuse to be a jerk
  • Finding the positive in the midlife “crisis”

Running a business and leading a family can be such a challenging aspect of life. Both require so much time and attention and although similar in a lot of ways, the way you lead professionally is not always translatable into leading personally.

My guest today is Steve Chou, the author of The Family First Entrepreneur. Today, Steve and I talk about not being a stranger to your kids, practical strategies for avoiding burnout and unnecessary stress, whether you should stay at your current employment or “burn the boats” when starting a side business, and how side-hustles boost confidence! A lot of these things I wish I would have learned a whole lot sooner.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The line between helping your kids and making them figure things out
  • Building a business while not sacrificing the relationship with loved ones
  • Being driven by ego vs being driven by service
  • Knowing your purpose
  • Ignorance contributing to Asian hate
  • Everyone should have a side hustle
  • Staying focused on one thing at a time
  • Different approaches to outsourcing
  • Weighing business opportunities against family time
  • Getting your kids involved with the business
  • Opportunities and drawbacks with AI
