Today, Kipp Sorensen and I talk about the pursuit of meaning, fulfillment over happiness, nightly routines, fostering a competitive spirt, and so much more…

Mar 12, 2019

If you're anything like me, you're fed up with the noise and nonsense we see in mainstream and social media. It seems that everywhere we turn and with everything we say, people are looking for reasons to be upset and/or offended.

My guest today does not allow that to back him down or dictate the conversations he wants to have on some very important subjects everyone else is too afraid to talk about, from sexual orientation, religion, masculinity, politics and just about every other topic we're "not supposed to talk about."

His name is Chad Prather and, today, we talk about our responsibility to speak up, calling boys into manhood, the rise of the victim culture, and the power of being politically incorrect.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • The power of political incorrectness
  • Our responsibility to speak up
  • How to become a more effective communicator
  • The rise of the "victim culture"
  • The delusion of social media
  • Overcoming the vocal minority
  • The danger of identity politics
  • Calling boys into manhood
  • Losing the ability to connect face-to-face
  • Learning to be satisfied but not content
  • The power of storytelling
  • Re-orienting a generation of weak people
  • Developing a vision
  • Taking risks
  • Fostering courage and confidence

CHAD PRATHER

My guest today is a man that won't need an introduction for a lot of you.

His name is Chad Prather and you may know him as the political cowboy. But just in case you don't already know, Chad is a comedian and a political commentator willing to discuss (and have some fun with) some of the most polarizing topics in society today.

He's been entertaining people on TV as early at 6 years old and hasn't let up since. He's been featured on Fox New, A&E, CNN, MSN, and The Blaze. In fact, he's everywhere. So much so that I can list all the things he's up to.

That said, I'm excited to have had the chance to sit down and talk with someone who I admire for not only his perspective and his interesting approach to sharing it but his willingness to do so in an environment that seems to be increasingly wanting to shut down these types of conversations.

As humans, we have an incredible ability to deflect and shift blame - sometimes relying on excuses that are decades old. Today, I talk about why, if you want to achieve what you're capable of, you have to let your excuses expire.

Today, Kipp Sorensen and I talk about how to exceed the call of duty, liberate yourself from social media, bringing up difficult conversations, what it means to love, and so much more...

There is no question that we are increasingly committing ourselves to digital use. The fact is that our use of digital technology has presented us with some opportunities never before available in the history of mankind. But that doesn't mean it doesn't pose a very serious threat to our sanity and well-being.

Today, I talk with repeat guest, Cal Newport, to talk about some of those threats and, more importantly, how we harness the power of digital technology while minimizing the risk that inherently comes with it. We talk about the philosophy of digital minimalism, why you ought to consider a "digital de-clutter," how to keep from losing control to technology, and how to minimize digital use while maximizing your life.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • What is digital minimalism
  • How to develop a philosophy of technology use
  • How to incorporate a digital de-clutter
  • Why you should place priority on long-term meaning over short-term satisfaction
  • How we lose control to technology
  • Why technology is not neutral
  • Why clutter is costly
  • How to develop a personal technology process
  • How we're beginning to see mental health issues associated with technology use
  • Strategies for overcoming digital addiction
  • How tech. companies capitalize on the "attention economy"
  • Why social approval is so compelling, even if we know the dangers
  • Why real-world interaction is so much more powerful than digital interaction
  • Why every man needs to strategize his free time
  • How to utilize the idea of "slow media" in your life

CAL NEWPORT

Gentlemen, today I have the honor of introducing you to my friend and repeat guest, Mr. Cal Newport.

Cal is an MIT graduate and a professor of computer science at Georgetown University and, in addition to that, he is extremely interested in the intersection of technology and society.

I know many of you have read his books, including, So Good They Can't Ignore you, Deep Work, and his latest New York Times Bestseller, Digital Minimalism.

I've been fascinated with his work since I first read, So Good They Can't Ignore you. In fact, many of his theories and ideas have been used in my life to build this movement, Order of Man. I'm not sure I would have had so much success with the organization without incorporating some of his ideas, including the ones he'll be sharing with us today.

Confidence is something a lot of men struggle with. Unfortunately, it's also something a lot of men believe you either have or you don't. That just isn't the case. As with any skill, it can be developed through intentional action. Here are ten steps to foster more confidence:

  1. Have a deep, emotionally charged vision for your life
  2. Be very specific on what you want to accomplish and why
  3. Tie that to small, actionable steps you can take daily
  4. Surround yourself with those who are achieving what you want to achieve
  5. Familiarize yourself with your fear in controlled environments
  6. Develop and build upon small wins
  7. Find people who will hold you accountable
  8. Don’t make excuses – call your fear for it for what it is
  9. Redefine Failure
  10. Weigh the Cost

Every single one of us has to start somewhere. When we look at the guys at the top, however, it's easy for us to jump to the conclusion that they've always been there. What we fail to see is the years of toil, effort, and struggle that those men at the top endured along the way.

Today, I am joined by Sal Frisella, who does a little bit of everything at 1stPhorm from running the organization to sweeping the floors. Today, he's here to talk with us about where he started, how he had to restart along the way, playing the long-game, how to create a culture of winning, and why everyone needs to pay their dues.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Why not everyone is designed to lead
  • How to build people of character
  • How to create an incredible culture
  • How to enforce an organization's core values

  • How physical fitness makes you a more effective leader
  • Getting better at saying, 'no'
  • Fully stepping into our obligations
  • Why everyone needs a dream
  • How the mantra, "right foot, left foot" will help you win

KEITH YACKEY

My guest today is my friend, Keith Yackey.

He's been extremely successful in the corporate and event world, building an 8-figure investment firm in just two short years.

But the reason I wanted to have him on the podcast is for his more recent endeavors, stand up comedy. It's something that has always been fascinating (and scary) to me so, to watching Keith go from, comedy newcomer to performing in some of the biggest comedy clubs in the world, has been incredible to watch.

I hope you enjoy today's conversation with Keith as he shares with us how to become funnier and why it's so important.

As many of you know, I have begun to immerse myself more deeply in the world of hunting. I've always been fascinated with the life and mindset of a hunter but never grew up being too exposed to it. Now that I am, my mind has been opened to what it truly means to be not only a hunter but a conservationist as well.

Today, I am joined by a man I have been watching for a long time, Mr. Donnie Vincent. He is a film-maker, a conservationist, a hunter, and one of the most trusted voices when it comes to the symbiotic relationship between the hunter and the hunted.

We talk about we have not evolved out of hunting, how ignorance around hunting is hurting all of us, how to become better stewards over our resources, and how to become the hunter.

  • Why we should pursue our passions
  • How to become a good steward over our resources
  • The problems with factory farming
  • Why we have not evolved out of hunting
  • Why we need to give back to nature
  • The relationship between the hunter and the hunted
  • The seriousness and gravity of the role of a hunter
  • How ignorance around hunting is hurting all of us

  • Why we should not pick sides as a hunter or non-hunter
  • How we can better self-regulate
  • The power of asking serious questions about food sustainability
  • Why education is the core of conversationism

DONNIE VINCENT

My guest today is Donnie Vincent and he is someone I deeply admire and respect regarding his work with the wilderness.

This is a man who has truly immersed himself in the connection with nature and is one of the leading voices and champions of sustainable and ethical hunting.

He is a biologist, hunter, explorer, conservationist, sportsman, and filmmaker. But one of his most powerful pursuits from my perspective is that of "storyteller."

Donnie creates amazing films documenting his journey into the wilderness, his connection with nature, and the hunts he pursues.

If you've ever considered hunting (or already are), following Donnie should be an absolute requirement.

The mind is a powerful thing. It can be used as a tremendous source of good or a tremendous source of destruction in your life. The way you choose to train and use it could, quite literally, be the only thing keeping you from accomplishing your greatest ambitions.

Today, I am joined by former Navy SEAL, ultrarunner, endurance athlete, wildland firefighter, and all-around badass, David Goggins. We talk about starring down adversity, using challenges as the fuel to propel yourself forward, the sacrifices you'll need to make to be successful, race issues and political correctness in America, and how you can master your mind and defy the odds.

DAVID GOGGINS

The man I have the privilege of introducing you to today, David Goggins, truly needs to no introduction.

Suffice it to say, David is one of the most insane human beings on the planet and someone I have respected and extremely inspired by over the past couple of years.

We've all watched his videos and most of us have read or listened to his latest book but having the opportunity to sit down face to face with him only increased my level of respect for what David has gone through, the odds he's overcome, and the incredible work he's been able to accomplish despite those odds being stacked against him.

Gentlemen, set this one on repeat as David and I have one of the most powerful conversations I've ever been part of.
