The rugged life isn’t something most of us are accustomed to. In fact, most men around the world would shatter at the slightest sign of inconvenience, let alone going without power for a week, not having access to food for 24 hours, or fuel prices rising to historic and unprecedented prices.

So, how do we, as men, ensure we’ll be able to care of ourselves and others? By embracing the Rugged Life my guest, former Navy SEAL and New York Times Bestselling Author, Clint Emerson, and I discuss. Today, we talk about the threat of a Russian or (more likely) Chinese invasion, how our entire lives hinge on the factor of personal responsibility, the power of incremental improvement, and how to harness and embrace the rugged lifestyle.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • We need to have a back up plan
  • Insulate yourself with skills and preparation
  • Options give you time, time gives you options
  • Being healthy is a great way to thrive things things go bad
  • We need to become less dependent on China
  • The root of our problems is lack of personal responsibility.

Life is suffering. At least, it’s full of suffering. Unfortunately, too many men avoid voluntary suffering and, instead, choose the path of least resistance. But that path leads to a life of complacency and mediocrity.

My guest today is a man who runs (literally) towards suffering and hardship, not to make life harder than it needs to be but to prepare himself for what will inevitably come. His name is Cam Hanes. He’s a bowhunter first, an ultra-endurance athlete, and an incredibly motivating human being. Today, we talk about the purpose of suffering, making the decision to make yourself into something more, why working harder than others will always produces results, finding mentorship and friendship, dealing with negativity from others, his new book Endure, and why every man ought to embrace the mantra, “Train Hard, Hunt Easy.”

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Learning to navigate time on your own
  • Being motivated to “find your limit”
  • Dealing with doubts despite success
  • Creating bonds through hardship
  • Using your strengths to inspire people and gain credibility
  • The easy path never leads to anything great
  • Determining which opportunities to pursue
  • Why stay at a “normal job” when you don’t have to
  • Running shoe companies becoming too “woke”
  • Finding motivation by having a chip on your shoulder
  • Providing an American-made option for hunting gear with Origin

Life never presents us with a linear path to success. Often, the journey is marred with failures, obstacles, setbacks, challenges, and detours. It’s what we do in the face of the inevitable that determines the level of satisfaction and fulfillment in our lives.

We cover paying attention to the little things, the mixed emotions of starting a company, developing a powerful team culture, and finding confidence when you don’t have any experience.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Knife making as a kid
  • A little bit of early luck
  • Its good to have influence from a variety of men
  • Transitioning from hand made to “production” knives

  • Its great to be able to give back
  • Being responsible when pursuing your dream
  • A lot of men lack a vision for the future
  • Support at home is extremely important
  • You have to have confidence in yourself
