In this week’s ASK ME ANYTHING, Ryan Michler and Kipp Sorensen take on your questions from the Iron Council, the exclusive brotherhood of the Order of Man movement.  Hit Ryan up on Instagram at @ryanmichler and share what’s working in your life.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

(6:00) What’s your thoughts on the current FBI raids on conservative/Christian men?

(7:40) How do you know when you should leave a steady pay check for your own business?

(12:00) What would be some tactics we could use to expand or move beyond this box (constructed of our previous experiences) if the current situation that we find ourselves in, while not ideal, has put us in a better position than anything we have yet to experience?

(25:00) How can I help my kids overcome new fears, which have surfaced after separating from my wife?

(30:40) How do you build a group of men around you that goes deeper than surface level?

(36:00) What, if any, resources do you suggest for talking to son about sex?

(41:00) Have you considered expanding the Order of Man into any other areas? E.g. OoM shooting ranges, OoM BJJ Academies, OoM Hunting Classes, or anything else along those lines.

(44:50) How do I balance being a present father, fiancé and working, while also trying to take care of myself in order to take better care of my family?

(48:40) How does this quote from John, relate to what you offered those who attended the Legacy event?

Eldredge says “Boyhood Above all else, is a time of being the beloved son, the apple of your father’s eye. A time of affirmation. For though I maintain my premise laid out in Wild at Heart—that every man shares the same core Question, which is “Do I have what it takes?”— Before and beneath that Question in a man’s search for validation lies a deeper need—to know that he is prized, delighted in, that he is the beloved son.”

Anytime you mention the word, “politics,” you know you’re in for a charged and polarizing conversation but it’s crucial we talk more about politics and the policy that comes with it because it impacts every facet of our lives.

My guest today, Congressman Dan Crenshaw, joins me to talk about the key issues impacting culture and society today including a healthy approach to reaching across the aisle, why it’s important for conservatives to have a voice in what we typically view as liberal issues, not only the far left but the far right – something he calls, “woke conservatism,” the importance of humility and open-mindedness, and distinguishing between politics and policy.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Prioritizing in politics
  • The downside of rank contrarianism
  • Pursuing rational environmentalism
  • Red flag laws and gun control
  • Men’s tendency to gravitate toward negative information
  • Lack of critical thinking and humility in America
  • Negative consequences of playing around with politics
  • We don’t need another AOC
  • Victimhood is seen as an attribute in society

All of us want to be happy and successful and, yet, for many of us it seems so far away or so hard, if not impossible, to obtain. But my guest today, the one and only Ed Mylett, makes the case in his newest book, The Power of One More, that what we ultimately desire is not all that far away at all but perhaps just one more decision, step, conversation, or action away.

Today, Ed and I talk about how to develop that mindset, why being “rich” does not necessarily equal having money, the difference between confidence and arrogance, why it’s crucial we identify our value systems, the power of equanimity, pursuing progress, and taking inventory of our lives.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Its easy for men to get discouraged
  • Arrogance vs healthy confidence
  • Don’t attach your identify to the external
  • Knowing the line between serving others and serving yourself
  • Can anger serve us?
  • Learning how to channel your emotions
  • An awareness of a challenge helps it lose its power over you
  • The ultimate confirmation does not come from a human being
  • Pursuing progress, not perfection
  • Reframe what it means to miss things with your kids
  • Sometimes you need to be “creatively present”

I think most of us believe there is a reason we’re here on this planet. But I personally know how hard it can be to uncover and discover the reason that is. It seems daunting considering how easily we can become consumed with trivial matters and the distractions of modern culture and society.

But my guest today, Eric Thomas (AKA, The Hip Hop Preacher), has been helping millions of people around the world ignite their power and purpose. Today, ET and I talk about overcoming the “passive boy,” becoming more of who you are – not a clone of someone else, why you don’t need the world to approve to succeed, the battle between the “two you’s,” and finding immense opportunity in crisis.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Criticism often reflects one’s own insecurity
  • Getting what we want isn’t necessarily getting what we need
  • Learning from others rather than being them
  • Know what self-actualization means to you
  • Having a relationship with God
  • You need both God and money
  • Taking personal responsibility for your life

(29:30) What strategies do you use when you feel overwhelmed with more to do than you have time?

(32:20) My friend has been thinking about starting a business idea for a few years. This business is like a second side to the business that I run right now. Or would I be stepping on his toes and negatively affecting our friendship by doing this?

Most of us would like to believe that in a moment we are called to make a stand on our principles, we would do it without hesitation. But can we say for certain we would act in accordance with what we believe when confronted with the risk of social alienation, ostracization from our friends and family, potential loss of a job, and the financial insecurity that comes with it?

That’s exactly what my guest, NBA star Jonathan Isaac, had to deal with when he decided to stand for the National Anthem when all of his teammates took a knee during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement and the George Floyd case. Today, we talk about his decision to do so, why people place labels on and attempt to dehumanize others, facing your fears by walking with Christ, the power of social media and group think, and becoming bold as lions.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Choosing to make a stand
  • Loving each other the way that God loves us
  • Highly emotional situations require restraint
  • Hypocrisy in the faith
  • Racism is cured by a change in someones heart
  • The message often gets lost in a protest
  • When God’s plan doesn’t align with our plan
  • Staying in your lane while being authentic to yourself
