With as much craziness and violence we see in public these days, it’s crucial that we as men learn how to effectively protect and defend ourselves and those we love. Fortunately, with a little intentionality and planning it’s not all that difficult to keep ourselves and others safe.

Today, I’m joined by Former Navy SEAL, FBI Agent, and Federal Air Marshall, Jonathan Gilliam to talk about how to do just that. We cover the concept of preparation versus paranoia, the default of awareness, when to get involved in situations and when not to, the “crawl, walk, run” theory, and recognizing and neutralizing threats before they occur.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The difference between paranoia and preparation
  • The danger of complacency
  • Know God before you can achieve anything
  • Groupthink is rampant and out of control
  • Evil thoughts are often emotional and not logical

Hunting is not only something that provides a challenge and sustains life for many of us, as it has for countless generations.  But it also provides unique and powerful opportunities to build bonds between those with whom we share these experiences.  Last week, I had the opportunity to share such an experience with my son, Brecken, as we set out on a moose hunt in the wilderness of northern Maine.

On today’s episode, Brecken and I share the story of how we harvested a beautiful bull moose in an epic hunt, filled with disappointments, missed shots, but ultimately success…and how the greatest success of all had nothing to do with hunting.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Drawing the lucky moose tag
  • Getting settled into camp
  • The moose habitat in Maine
  • Early opportunities in the hunt
  • Success on the last day
  • Team effort to bring down the beast
  • The highlight of the trip had nothing to do with hunting

It seems like it’s political month around here but with the mid-terms coming up, I think it’s important that we discuss some of these crucial political topics that impact us, our families, and our communities so much.

I’m joined today by former Navy SEAL and Congressional Candidate, Eli Crane, to talk about why it's crucial men have at least some interest in politics, how courage in you breeds courage in others, the collapse of some of our most predominant social institutions, the concept of ideological subversion, and the need for principle over power in our elected officials.

  • Responding to the needs of the nation
  • How much can one person do?
  • Motivated by principle vs. motivated by power
  • The importance of staying engaged
  • The military becoming a social experiment

  • The power vacuum will always be filled
