The path to personal progress and growth can be a frustrating road. Change is often incremental or barely noticeable and, because so, many men choose to throw in the towel way too soon before they give themselves a fighting chance to change the trajectory of their lives.

Today, I’m joined by 5-Time Fittest Man on Earth, Mat Fraser, to talk about the path of hard work. We cover tiny progressions along the way, looking for and being ready to capitalize on opportunities, the dangers in tying your identity to performance, the pros and cons of self-criticism, what he refers to as the “Rubber Band Theory,” and other psychological strategies he employed on his way to becoming the most dominant CrossFit Athlete in its history.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Hanging out with the Black Rifle team
  • Do dangerous things, carefully
  • Don’t build your entire identify on what you are doing currently
  • Pay attention to the little things
  • Gaining the psychological advantage against competitors
  • Don’t let your ego undermine your strategy
  • Always find the silver lining
  • When is it appropriate to engage with haters
  • Using resentment as a motivator
  • Using small goals to reach larger ones
  • Get obsessive over the right things
