Hunting has started to gain some serious traction over the past several years. With notable influencers like Joe Rogan, Cameron Hanes, and John Dudley all advocating for the benefits of connecting with your food source, it’s easy to see why so many have become interested in the process.

In fact, I only started hunting 4 years ago and, in that time, I have been introduced to some amazing people in the community like my guest today, John Barklow, who is a big game product manager for the premier camouflage on the market, SITKA Gear. Today, John and I talk about how social media has both been helping and hurting the cause of hunting, why there is such a surge in the hunting space, why – if you want to get into hunting yourself – you need to take initiative, the beautiful responsibility outdoorsmen have, and the proficiencies men need to develop to become successful in harvesting wild game.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The rising popularity of hunting
  • Instagram hunting vs. reality
  • Finding common ground with vegans and vegetarians
  • Building the best outdoor gear you can get
  • How to get started in hunting
  • Starting with the right equipment and clothing
  • Putting in the reps before you go for the big trophy
  • The trophy is a reminder of the memories and hard work
  • Stop making excuses and get out there
  • Getting experience even if you don’t have a tag
  • Training SEALs
  • Understand the limitations of what you wear

Work/life balance is a term that gets thrown around all the time. And, although I believe it’s a bit of a misnomer, there is no question that finding the proper allocation of time, attention, and resources towards professional and personal pursuits is on plenty of men’s minds.

That’s why I’m stoked to finally be sitting down with my friend, Jesse Itzler. Jesse is someone who, in spite of his tremendous professional success, has managed to become an incredibly committed and devoted husband and father. Today, we talk about why that is and how he has been able to make that happen using very specific strategies and system (which he shares during our conversation), pursuing unique and interesting ventures, finding one challenging adventure to take part in each and every year, and how to live a life optimized.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Kids are on their own journey

My guest today needs no introduction. His name is Ben Shapiro and he is likely one of the most polarizing guests that I’ve had on since we started podcasting 6 years ago. But regardless of what you may think about him and his stances on the world’s most pressing concerns, these are exactly the types of challenging conversations we should be having.

Today, we cover a lot of ground including Ben’s new book, The Authoritarian Moment: How the Left Weaponized America’s Institutions Against Dissent. We also discuss the shifting Overton Window in politics, using logic over feelings to create solutions, why many people are “too nice” and losing the cultural battle, and where one needs to draw the line on government overreach.

  • Most corporations want to avoid controversy
  • People in the middle tend to cave to the louder side
  • The left has overshot their mark

The world (and our social media accounts) are flooded with a false sense of bravado, machismo, and the “alpha” mentality from men who, when you peel back the layers, are dealing with some very difficult and challenging experiences and struggles.

Needless to say, there has been a tremendous amount of turmoil and division in America over the past several years. This isn’t new in the history of the United States but it seems to me that we, as citizens, are more divided than we’ve ever been on a myriad of issues from foreign policy, to COVID restrictions and mandates, to gun legislation and healthcare, and everywhere in between.

And, my guest today has a lot to say about these issues and more. And, not ironically, I’m sure people will be very divided on this conversation as well. His name is Representative Dan Crenshaw, a former Navy SEAL and Representative for the state of Texas. Today, we discuss the new COVID measures announced by President Biden last week, foreign affairs and the threat of terrorism (including everything happening in Afghanistan right now), why our emotional responses to these issues are getting us into trouble and putting us in danger, and why we all need to be more informed rather than ignorant on the most pressing issues of today.

Increasingly, it seems to be that we’re losing much of the common sense that we, collectively, once possessed. Common sense has been replaced with quick sounds bites, “clapbacks” on social media, and manufactured outraged designed to drive clicks and capture eyeballs and attention.

His name is Zuby and I know many of you are already very familiar with his work. Today, we talk about the dangers of tribalism, the motives and intentions of our government overlords and elites, how to have real conversations that actually drive change, why empathy is crucial in dialogue, and how to recapture common sense in uncommon times.

Frankly, gents, I don’t even know what to say about this conversation. It was a powerful discussion from a man who has been through hell and back to fight for not only who he is as a man but as a father of his children.

His name is Greg Ellis and, although you may not recognize his name, you have definitely seen him on the Silver Screen. Every one of us intuitively knows that getting stronger is the right thing to do. It quite literally improves every facet of our lives from the influence we can develop with others, to the energy needed to build a business, and the stamina and mental fortitude needed to raise and lead a family. Why, then, do so many men slack in this department?

My guest, Sal Di Stefano, and I talk about that today. He is an expert in strength training and the author of The Resistance Training Revolution.
