It’s clear by now the stigma that once surrounded psychedelics has lost some of its power. With the use of psychedelics like Psilocybin, Ayahuasca, and even LSD becoming much more mainstream through personalities like Joe Rogan and all we hear about “plant-medicine,” from some of the most influential people today, it’s time we all start taking a closer look at the ins and outs, pros and cons, and features and setbacks of the world of psychedelics.

Today I am joined by Matt Zemon, a Master in Medical Science in both psychology and neuroscience, and author of his latest book, Psychedelics for Everyone. I am naturally a bit of a skeptic so I took that approach on a topic I admittedly don’t know a whole lot about. We discuss why the stigma around psychedelics and how did that come to be, the use of psychedelics to treat shame, blame, and guilt and other symptoms of “treatment resistant PTSD,” how psychedelics have been used to help people overcome crippling alcohol and drug addiction, the spiritual journey one may discover on his exploration into these medicines, side effects to consider, and how many men are using psychedelics to expand their consciousness.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Psychedelics is a technology
  • The psychedelic journey is often a top 5 experience
  • Is there a benefit to shame, blame, and guilt
  • Defining PTSD
  • Psychedelics are not for everyone
  • There’s more to it than just “trust the science”
  • What is a psychedelic?
  • Psychedelics should not be seen as a “cure”
  • Using psychedelics to get off other drugs
  • Side effects of psychedelics

We’re all familiar with the Warrior Archetype. Many men listening to this podcast embody what it means to be a warrior. But if we are exclusively warriors in our approach to life, we can easily overlook the more gentle, meeker virtues that make us well-rounded men.

My guest today is a man intimately familiar with the balance between the lion and the lamb, the warrior and the poet. His name is John Lovell and he is the author of The Warrior Poet Way: A Guide to Living Free and Dying Well. Today, John and I talk about striking the balance between both, how we’re neither exclusively warrior or exclusively poet, how to become not just dangerous in the physical realm but also dangerous in our virtue, how humility heals everything, overcoming a crisis of identity, and why if there is nothing to protect there is no need for men, and the proper time and place for displaying vulnerability.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The concept of the warrior poet
  • We are lacking both warriors and poets in society
  • Jesus is the eternal warrior and poet
  • Evil people pulling the political strings
  • Everything has become a “political” issue
  • Being influenced by Artificial Intelligence
  • Pride poisons everything, humility heals everything
  • Humility is a source of strength
  • Building strength through suffering
  • Truth is narrow and exclusive

We’re all tempted, at times, to cut corners, to take the path of least resistance, and to do work less than we’re capable of doing. It’s easy to do in this easily distracted, overly-stimulated environment we all operate in. My guest today, former Navy SEAL, Remi Adeleke is a prime example of doing work right despite our desire to take the easy route.

Author of his latest book, Chameleon, Hollywood director and consultant, and TV reality show star, Remi knows what he wants, what he doesn’t, and how to pursue everything with an eye towards exceptionalism and mastery. Today, we talk about not becoming a “one-note guy,” getting over Fear of Missing Out when declining opportunities, why writing is one of the best ways to articulate your thoughts, why it’s a mistake to write off the success of others, and timeless advice he learned from his mom like the mantra, “Whatever you do, do it right.”

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Doing it all
  • Make yourself indispensable
  • Creating a fantasy world from your own real world experience
  • Coming to America from Nigeria
  • Don’t live in the past and play the victim

  • Chat GPT and AI making people stupid
  • Bringing your work to life on the screen
