I don’t care in what capacity you’re showing up in life – you are a leader. And, whether you realize it or not, you are having an influence on those around you. Whether you’re trying to secure a job promotion, lead your team and co-workers to success, manage a home, or get their kids to do their chores, your ability to learn and implement the strategies Jocko and I share today are critical.

Jocko Willink (a man who needs no introduction) and I sit down face to face to discuss what it means to be a leader, considerations when raising kids right, striking the balance between opposing leadership methods (dichotomies), and very specific leadership strategies and tactics. And, if all that isn’t enough, we talk a little bit about archery and beards.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Origin Emersion Camp
  • Mental fortitude
  • Mechanical drills
  • The evolution of Echelon Front
  • Writing a best seller
  • Leadership for kids
  • A first-class archery experience
  • A roll of the dice

  • Correcting bad behavior

JOCKO WILLINK

My guest today is a man who has now been on the podcast on four separate occasions and someone who does not, for most of you listening, need an introduction. His name is Jocko Willink and he served as the Navy SEAL Commander for the most highly-decorated special forces unit of the Iraq war.

And, since leaving the military has gone on to lead on of the most recognizable and effective leadership companies in the world with his brother-in-arms, Leif Babin, Echelon Front.

On top of all of that, he’s written 8 books with his most recent being Leadership Strategy and tactics Field Manual (which we’ll be discussing today). His other books include Extreme Ownership, Dichotomy of Leadership, and the Way of the Warrior Kid series, among others.

I’m honored to call this man a friend and am proud to be able to share our conversation with you today.

IRON COUNCIL

Obviously, we’ve been talking all about leadership today on the podcast. I want to offer you an additional resource if you’re looking to up your leadership effectiveness.

It’s called the Iron Council and it’s a brotherhood of men working together to achieve maximum results in our lives. And, a lot of what we discuss is centered around the third pillar of masculinity, Preside, which is synonymous with leadership.

Most of the institutions that have served men and offered a place for them to band together have been on the decline and while all of that is going away, the Order of Man and the Iron Council is rising up instead. We’re dedicated to giving you the tools, resources, brotherhood, camaraderie, and accountability to step fully into that man you have a desire to become.

Too many men are reliant on others to save them when it all hits the fan. And, while there may be someone there to rescue you in your greatest time of need, it’s critical that we all learn to take care of and protect ourselves.

That’s why I wanted to have Pat McNamara join me on the podcast. As a 22-year military veteran and someone who has dedicated his life to making himself more capable in the most dire times, he is uniquely qualified to talk about situational awareness, staying on the alert, being prepared but not paranoid, and making yourself a sentinel

  • Being moral and ethical
  • The benefits of curiosity
  • Being the protector
  • The 45-degree syndrome

  • Utilizing your primal instincts

PAT MCNAMARA

My guest today is a man who needs no introduction. His name is Pat McNamara and he is one of the baddest men on the planet.

As I mentioned earlier, he is a 22-year military veteran and has served in a myriad of special operations units. Through his military service, he began to develop his own training methodology combining safety, continuous critical thinking, and effectiveness.

In addition to that, he is an author of Tactical Application and Practical Shooting and Sentinel. Today, he joins me to talk about making yourself a more capable protector.

MAINE EVENT

Gentlemen, we had such a huge success with the inaugural Order of Man Maine Event that we decided to get you the dates as soon as possible for the next one.

It’s going to be held in Maine on May 29-31st, 2020. I know that’s a ways away but I wanted to give you plenty of notice to secure your spot to an event that has the ability to transform the way you look at your life as a man.

The institutions we once used to band with other men are dwindling and being dismantled. And, that’s why it’s critical you find new and improved ways of banding with men who are on the same path as you. And, that’s exactly what you’re doing to get when you join us for 2 ½ days of brotherhood, camaraderie, and instruction.

Fatherhood is one of the noblest, exciting, and rewarding callings a man can step into. It’s also one of the absolute hardest. Unfortunately, there is no manual for becoming a great father, like you have a desire to be. Most of it is trial and error. But that doesn’t mean we can’t learn extremely effective tactics and strategies from men on the same path.

My guest today is Alec Lace. He is the founder of First-class Fatherhood where he has interviewed the some of the highest performing fathers in the world: Tom Brady, Dion Sanders, Mike Ritland, Ed Mylett, and so many more. Today, we talk about managing your time more effectively, how to engage your children in more meaningful discussions, the viability of homeschooling, and how to become a high-performing father.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The new-father mindset
  • Struggles of being a father
  • Tools to eliminate guilt
  • Overcoming difficult times
  • Shifting your mindset
  • Hitting rock-bottom
  • Taking ownership of your life
  • Channeling your obsessions
  • Maximum use of time
  • Getting beyond your ego
  • Being a single dad
  • The never quit mentality

ALEC LACE

As I mentioned previously, my guest today is Alec Lace. He is the founder of First Class Fatherhood (I’m a previous guest on his podcast).

He is an absolutely inspiring human being in that he’s overcome some tremendous odds and personal adversity to become the type of father a lot of us hope to become. He’s also interviewed some absolutely incredible fathers like Tom Brady, Dion Sanders, Kurt Warner, Dean Cain, Rob O’Neil, and so many more.

Today, he’s here to talk with us about what makes for a powerful father, how we can step up our game with our kids, overcoming our own personal demons, and simply being a better father.

IRON COUNCIL

Gents, I invite you to take a look at what our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council has to offer. I talk with way too many men who are lost without direction, clarity, and purpose.

I get it. It’s hard to find your way in the society in which we live. Many of you were fatherless growing up. Many of you are stuck in dead-end jobs you hate. Many of you are a shell of the man you once were or have the desire to become.

I firmly believe that having a band of brothers to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you on the path you’re meant to walk is one of the most powerful resources at your disposal. And, that’s exactly what you’ll find inside the Iron Council – men working together on themselves and holding each other accountable. It’s not flashy. Sometimes, it’s not all that exciting. But it gets the job done and that’s exactly why it’s so effective.

Getting Strong is undoubtedly something the overwhelming majority of men want to do. But with so much information out there and with our days stacked to the brim, it’s hard to know what to do and how to find the time to do it.

Today, I am joined by my friend and long-time strong man to talk about strength of the body and of the mind, both inside and outside the gym. We talk about forging mental resilience, having the right attitude to attack life, how and why we need to teach our children toughness, and how to forge your way to underground strength.

  • A lack of hardship

ZACH EVEN-ESH

Gents, I can’t tell you how excited I am to share my conversation with Zach Even-Esh.

I was fortunate enough to have him at our home and spend some time training physically and showing him around Maine. If you don’t already know, Zach, he is a long-time strong man, a strength and conditioning coach, and the founder of The Underground Strength Gym.

He has a passion for simplifying strength and conditioning and mentoring and preparing youth for life through the gym. We talk about a lot today and I think you’re going to enjoy this conversation as we get much deeper than simply getting strong.

IRON COUNCIL

Gentlemen, if you’re not already familiar, let me introduce you to the Iron Council. The Iron Council is a digital band of brothers.

That sounds really good but what does that even mean? It means that when you band with us, you’ll be tapping into the power of 500+ other men who have high ambitions and are doing everything they can to become more effective husbands, fathers, business owners, and community leaders.

Too many men go at it alone. It doesn’t make you weak to band with other men. It makes you stronger because you’ll be working with men who have your back and will ensure you step into the man you’re capable of becoming.

Each of us is faced with thousands of decisions on a daily basis. You’re ability to make the right decisions spell the difference between failure and success for you, your family, your clients, your business, and your community. Unfortunately, with all the variables to take into consideration, it’s hard to know which decisions are best.

That’s why I’m looking forward to getting this conversation to you today. My guest is David Meltzer and he is the CEO of one of the world’s leading sports and entertainment marketing agencies. Today, we go to the root of making choices, why assumptions kill success, the power of harnessing fear, and how to improve your game-time decision making.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Rags to riches
  • How critical decisions are made
  • Fear-based consciousness
  • Ego-based consciousness
  • Making assumptions
  • The pragmatic truth
  • Having an attitude of faith
  • Disciplining the sub-conscience
  • Doing things consistently
  • Choosing to be happy
  • Living in the truth
  • Shifting your energy
  • Accessing what you want
  • How to substitute fear
  • Coming from a place of love
  • Truth consciousness
  • Improving your vibration

DAVID MELTZER

As I mentioned earlier, my guest is David Meltzer and he is the CEO of Sports 1 Marketing, a top 10 keynote speaker, an award-winning humanitarian, and a best-selling author.

He has over 25 years of experience in the legal, technology, sports, and entertainment fields, and needless to say, is an expert in high-stakes, high-pressure decision-making situations.

He is business partners with Hall of Fame Quarterback, Warren Moon, and inspired movies such as Jerry Maquire, Any Given Sunday, and For Love of the Game.

And, as you’ll hear in our conversation today, he is an extremely deep thinker and I know you’ll enjoy how deep we go in this podcast on how to position yourself to make better choices and decisions.

IRON COUNCIL

With all that we’ve had going on over the past couple of months with the move and our upcoming event this weekend, you haven’t heard me talk about our exclusive brotherhood, the Iron Council for a bit.

It seems to me most men have lost their ability to band with other like-minded men who are going to push, motivate, and inspire them to do and be more in their lives. And, that’s exactly what we’re all about inside the Iron Council.

When you band with us, you’re going to get a monthly assignment (this month is hyper-focused on physical fitness), weekly challenges to push you along the way, access to the Foundry (our communication platform), and the camaraderie and accountability that comes when you band with other high-achieving men.

Today, I sit down with a fascinating man. His name is Mat Best and many of you know from his viral videos for Black Rifle Coffee Company. But what you may not know is how he views his military service as an Army Ranger with five combat tours.

During our conversation, we talked about how he views his service, his continual support of military veterans, how he founded his mission after the military, where he stumbled along the way, and how he helped turn a simple coffee company into a household name.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mission-oriented
  • Defining yourself
  • Acts of heroism
  • Defusing threats
  • Controlled violence
  • How to out-grit people
  • Being uncomfortable
  • Developing core-competencies
  • Mission first
  • Manageable disagreements
  • Creating a community
  • The land of opportunity
  • The need for meaningful conflict
  • Owning responsibility

MAT BEST

As I stated earlier, my guest today is someone most of you are probably familiar with. His name is Mat Best and he is a former Army Ranger and the co-founder of Black Rifle Coffee company along with several other companies he founded since leaving the military.

He and I had the opportunity to sit down at Total Archery Challenge a couple of weeks ago in Park City to talk about his military service, how to lead an incredible organization in Black Rifle Coffee Company, and his new book, Thank You For My Service.

Gents, I think you’re going to enjoy this one as you might see a side of Mat you haven’t seen before.

ORIGIN

If you’re not familiar with Origin Maine, I encourage you to get familiar with them as soon as you can. Whether or not you’re into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or not is irrelevant as they do so much more than make gi’s and rashguards.

Their goal is to restore American Manufacturing and with their new denim line, boot line, and Jocko Supplements, they are on the path to doing just that.

I personally use their supplements, specifically, their Super Krill, Joint Warfare (for the aching joints since ramping up Jiu-Jitsu), Molk, and their new product, a cognitive enhancement called Discipline Go.

If you’re looking to add some supplements to your nutritional and exercise lineup, check out Jocko’s products by Origin Maine and, when you do, use the code “order” at checkout to get a 10% discount. Head to www.originmaine.com and, again, use the code, “order” at checkout.

It comes as no surprise that most men have a desire to stand out from the pack as a man of credibility and authority. I call it influence and, the more of it you have with others, the more effective and successful you will be in your life.

Today, I am joined by my friend, Bert Sorin, to talk about how to stand out as the man. He’s a man I’ve respected immensely since I met him a little over a year ago and someone who stands out as the type of man I’m referring. We get into the “x-factor,” adding value in all of your interactions, matching your actions with your words, and how to stand out as a man among men.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Defining the X-Factor
  • Finding relevance
  • Adding value to your tribe
  • Developing social skills
  • Having the right motives
  • Protecting your “magic”
  • Letting go of expectations
  • Watching the tide come in
  • Scaling forward
  • Your value proposition
  • Dissociating from your activities
  • Building your fortress
  • Playing to win

BERT SORIN

Gents, today I am joined by repeat guest and friend, Bert Sorin.

Bert is the President and CEO of Sorinex. I know you’ve been hearing me talk about them for some time now since I was introduced to him and Sorinex about this time last year.

Bert is a former Division 1 Track and Field All-American and an Olympics Trial athlete. And, what he learned in sports, he has now translated to running this incredible leader in strength and exercise equipment.

And, it’s not only about their equipment. I had the privilege of attending their annual event, SummerStrong, and I can tell you that the culture they’ve created within the organization and movement is a sight to behold. And, because of that, I thought Bert and I needed to sit down for round 2 to talk about standing out. Enjoy.

MAINE EVENT

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is something along the lines of “How do I get my life back on track?” I wish there was an easy answer. There isn’t. But, there is a simple one.

It’s called the Battle Plan and it’s a system I’ve been developing over 10 years to take control of my health, relationships, bank account, this movement, and my life in general.

If you’ve been listening to the podcast over the past month, you’ve heard me talk about the Order of Man Maine event (held August 10th-11th). Among the like-minded men you’ll meet, the challenges we’ll participate in, and the activities we have planned, you’ll be working on your own Battle Plan to accomplish more in the next 90 days than you potentially have all year.

If you know you’re meant for more but haven’t found the systems and tools to maximize your potential, join us August 10th-11th in Maine for an event designed to give you the network and framework to take complete sovereignty over your life.

All of us are dealt a hand, some harder than others. But as my guest today can attest, it’s not the hand we’re dealt that matters, it’s how we play it.

Today’s conversation is with Nick Santonastasso (who many of you are already probably aware of). He is a bodybuilder, entrepreneur, adventurer, and highly-sought-after public speaker. And, he was born with a debilitating medical condition which left him legless and missing one arm. Today, we talk about overcoming the victim mentality, how to develop confidence, how to view difficult circumstances as a gift, and how to defeat the odds.

SHOW HIGHLIGHTS

  • Being a man of action
  • Giving without expectations
  • Putting your ego to the side
  • Using the right vocabulary
  • Reframing a victim mentality
  • Filtering out the wrong people
  • How to build confidence
  • Defining your own success
  • Becoming the CEO of your life
  • How to overcome limiting beliefs
  • Facing objective reality
  • Progress within yourself
  • Surrendering your ego
  • Reflecting on your wins
  • Appreciating pain
  • Growing through curiosity

NICK SANTONASTASSO

As I mentioned earlier, my guest today is Nick Santonastasso. He has got to be one of the most inspiring people that I know and, if you’re familiar with him, I think you would likely agree.

He was born with a rare medical condition (he’s only one of 12 people born with it and 8 of them are dead). It’s called Hanhart Syndrom and it kept him from developing his legs and one of his arms.

But none of that has stopped him. In fact, if anything, it’s propelled him forward as he’s taken what would both literally and figuratively cripple most and turned it into something extremely empowering for him and the millions he inspires.

He’s tried it all from bowling to wrestling to bodybuilding and now, he’s speaking up as one of the most sought-after public speakers in the world. And, once you listen to this podcast, I think you’ll know why.

ORDER OF MAN MAINE EVENT

One of the most frequently asked questions I receive is something along the lines of “How do I get my life back on track?” I wish there was an easy answer. There isn’t. But, there is a simple one.
